A 3-year-old Long Island girl has been found safe following an AMBER Alert being issued after her father was allegedly shot by the girl's mother and then fled with the child.

The incident took place around 8:20 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 5, at a home on Pleasure Drive in Riverhead, said Southampton Police Lt. Susan Ralph.

When officers arrived on the scene they found Andrew Mitchell, 46, of Flanders, who had been shot multiple times, Ralph said.

Mitchell was conscious and alert and able to tell officers the mother of his child, Patchita Tennant, 42, of Riverhead had shot him during a domestic dispute, Ralph said.

Tennant then fled the area with their 3-year-old daughter, Vanessa Mitchell Tennant, in a 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe, with New York registration HUS7151.

Southampton Police said as of 10 a.m., Friday, Sept. 6, the child had been located and the AMBER Alert had been canceled. There was no word if Tennant had been apprehended.

Mitchell was airlifted by Suffolk County Police Aviation Unit to an area hospital for treatment.

The investigation into the incident continues.
